If you’re trying to make homemade pastries and have trouble finding lard, you can always substitute it with butter. That means you don’t have to spend money on extra materials.

Tarragon is a difficult herb to find fresh, but I promise you that dried tarragon is just as good. please give me.

Broad beans are another ingredient that is really hard to find fresh.

It also dries very quickly, so even if you get it fresh, it may already be stale by the time you cook it.

Many chefs use frozen fava beans. Frozen broad beans are usually available next to frozen peas in supermarkets.

Canned or frozen peas can be used instead if they are not available in a store near you.

There are also plenty of ways to play around with the recipe and personalize it a bit.

If you’re brave enough to cook your pastry from scratch, you can season it with extra cheese or give it a little kick with dried chili powder.

You can also flavor the filling with dried chili peppers, curry powder, or any other spices you particularly like.

If you like it a little sweeter, adding caramelized onions to the pastry base before adding the filling is a great idea.

Just slowly sauté the onions with a little sugar and Bob is your uncle.

If you like your quiche meat, add ham or chopped bacon to the filling.

I like to add some chopped chives and/or chopped onions to give it a nice chewier texture.

Topping with chopped chives or parsley also makes for an attractive finish.

If you want to go a step further, you can omit the cheese and add smoked or canned salmon with dill instead.
