Bill Maher and Elon Musk Blame England for Anti-Free Speech Laws

Elon Musk And Bill Maher attacked Britain on Friday night, Maher criticized Britain’s libel laws, instead protection of free speech Under the First Amendment.

Musk, 51, was enthusiastically received at Maher’s show, where the host tweeted that the Twitter owner was “the guest I wanted more than anyone else.”

“Speech laws are strict in many parts of the world, including parts of the world that people might think are relatively similar to the United States,” Musk said.

Maher interrupted and said: ‘England – why do we protect them. They don’t have the First Amendment. In the UK it is very easy to prove defamation, but here…”

Musk turned him down, saying, “I like England.”

The host replied: Me too. But I don’t want to say anything wrong. Or you could be sued more easily. Musk did not refute his Maher’s comments.

England and the UK also have hate speech laws and people can be prosecuted for defaming minority groups, but in the US the First Amendment does not impose such laws.

Maher also mentioned France, where it is illegal to deny the Holocaust. This law also exists in Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Israel, the Netherlands, Canada, and several other countries. Holocaust denial is not illegal in the UK, but in a landmark February 2019 case, a blogger was charged with “grossly offensive” notions.

Maher felt that denying the Holocaust was “abhorrent,” but thought it should be protected under the First Amendment.

“This cannot be overemphasized,” Musk said.

“We have to defend free speech – and free speech matters, and it only matters if you’re someone who doesn’t like saying things you don’t like.

“Because freedom of speech, which you like, is obviously easy.

“I mean, about censorship, for those who support censorship, remember that at some point it will come back.”

His remark was greeted with thunderous applause.

“Freedom of speech is actually very important and it’s strange that we’ve come this far,” he said.

“Freedom of speech used to be a left-wing or liberal value.

“Nevertheless, we see in the Leftist citations a desire to actually censor.

“And it seems crazy.”

Musk said he was deeply concerned about the “Woke Mind Virus,” describing it as a “very undemocratic” herd mentality.

“You can’t question things,” he said.

“You can’t even ask questions.”

He said he considers himself a moderate, saying that “I’ve spent a lot of my life’s energy building sustainable energy”, but that’s “not quite right”.

However, he said he was troubled by the indoctrination of people, especially young people.

“I think parents generally don’t realize what their children are and aren’t being taught,” he said.

Musk said he had a friend who had a child who attended a school in the Bay Area and whose parents asked the child what he knew about the President of the United States.

“You know, who were the first few presidents of the United States,” Musk recalled him saying.

They may have named Washington, but I said what you know about him.

Maher asked Musk, which bought Twitter for $44 billion in October, about the two-minute clip Tucker Carlson posted Wednesday night.

Carlson was fired from Fox on Monday. Marr joked that Musk recently appeared on Carlson’s show and hopes Mask’s presence won’t spell the end of himself.

Musk laughed at the notion of being, as he put it, “talk show typhoid Mary.”

He said he only learned about it after Carlson’s post went public, and hadn’t tweaked the algorithm to boost the video.

“We didn’t do anything,” he said.

“Let’s be clear, we didn’t do anything special.

“Then I found out he was posting something on Twitter.”

Carlson’s shows averaged three million viewers per night. This is Cable’s highest number among his news hosts.
